streule

Born and raised in St. Georgen, a small suburb of St. Gallen, Martin Streule has lived and worked in Bern since 1991. He first studied electric bass with Stefan Rademacher and composition with Frank Sikora at the then Swiss Jazz School, then wind orchestra conducting with Hans-Peter Blaser and composition with Urs Peter Schneider at the Bern Conservatory. Today, both institutions are united in the Bern University of the Arts (HKB).

Jazz Orchestra

In 1997, at the end of his studies at the Swiss Jazz School, Martin Streule founded the MARTIN STREULE JAZZ ORCHESTRA, with which he performs exclusively his own compositions and arrangements. In addition to numerous concerts in various jazz clubs and at important festivals, the ensemble has also recorded four CDs. In 2003, the MSJO won the Jazz Prize of the Zürcher Kantonalbank. In 2017, after a longer break, the orchestra will go on a world premiere tour with the program “Chamber Songs”. The Berlin-based Israeli singer Efrat Alony will be a special guest.

He knows how to exploit the rich possibilities of the band like few others.”

PHOTOGRAPHY

Martin Streule discovered his passion for photography at the age of 13, when his father gave him his old Nikon FE. Shortly thereafter, he began developing his black-and-white photographs himself. After a longer interruption, he has been intensively involved with the possibilities of photography again since 2008. Areas of activity range from studio photography to macro and travel photography to more experimental techniques.
