“Streule is a brilliant sound painter.”

THE ISLAND
OF THE
FALLEN SOULS
The 1st Suite for Jazz Orchestra “THE ISLAND OF THE FALLEN SOULS” was performed for the first time at Martin Streule’s final examination at the Swiss Jazz School (now HKB) in Bern in the summer of 1997. George Gruntz was a jury member and had great fun with the project (“That was my best birthday present”).
At that time, the MSJO was still called “Martin Streule’s Concert Jazz Band Project”. The first songs to emerge were “In A Graceless Century” as the centerpiece and “Prologue” as the opener. The interludes are above all platforms for soloists and should be regarded more as chord sketches than complete songs.
“ A fresh breeze is blowing through the European big band landscape. And once again it is a Swiss who is causing a sensation. ”
